Guitar playing is a lot of fun but when is the right time to start learning how to play the guitar? Is there an age afterwhich it is too late?

Actually there are kids that start to take first steps at the age of 4 but usually the good average age is around 8 when the kid can hold the guitar. And there is no limit to the age. There are people at the age of 60 and even 70 that take guitar lessons as an hobby and enjoy it very much.

It’s Never Too Late To Learn To Play Guitar

No time is a bad time to start learning a new instrument, and the guitar is no different. Age doesn’t really matter if you have a positive attitude, and are willing to start at the starting. Studies have shown that biological age is hardly the biggest barrier for adults starting out learning an instrument – a poor attitude, impatience, or excessive self-consciousness is. It’s true that the mature brain will find it harder to learn a new skill as complex as playing an instrument, but nothing is too hard if you are passionate about it! We recommend that you tie up with a teacher – maybe schedule private lessons if you are uncomfortable with group classes. Also, the vast resource of the Internet can help you in self-study to the extent you choose. As an adult, you’re less likely to be pushed to practice, so you’ll have to motivate yourself to practice regularly. Remember – don’t be afraid of making mistakes – they are important parts of your learning and growth. Just pick up your guitar with a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn, and you’ll do fine! We hope these tips help you bust myths about it being ‘too late’ to learn guitar!

It’s never too late to learn to play guitar

Been wanting to play that guitar for years, but never got a chance? Or perhaps you’ve just recently taken a fancy for it, but think you’re ‘over the hill’, and too old to start…

We think not.

Believe us, you’re never too old to start learning guitar – or any other instrument, for that matter. As we’ve said before, guitar is fun – and easy, if you’re willing to put in some solid time. It doesn’t matter if you’re 15 or 50; anyone can become a good guitarist if he/she puts in some good practice and is really passionate about the instrument.

The ‘You can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ myth can be an easy way for people to tell you it’s too late to start playing guitar – but that’s just what this saying is, a myth! With a positive attitude, you can overcome the (seemingly huge) ‘barrier’ of age.

The truth is, age is mostly in your head.

It’s a fact that ’starting early’ or ‘inborn talent’ aren’t important factors in being a good musician – practice is. And this is within your control, no matter how old you are. However, as an adult, there’re likely to be fewer people to push you to practice, so that definit 1000 ely puts the onus on you.

You can do things to make yourself comfortable with being a beginner. If you’re uncomfortable with being in a big class where everyone else is much younger than you, arrange for private lessons. Also, the Internet makes a lot of things easier for you – the immediacy and convenience it offers can make guitar self-study a lot easier (we do recommend that beginners get a teacher, though).

Or maybe you’re worried that ‘you’re set in your ways’ and as an adult, will be a slower learner than you would have been as a wee 5- or 6- year old.

You’re right, partially.

It’s true that it’s harder for the mature brain to learn a new instrument – but studies show that the biggest hurdles for adults typically are negative attitudes and impatience. Avoid these two, and you’ll have a fulfilling experience starting out with the Jazz Guitar Lesson. A final tip – don’t be afraid to fail. Remember, as a beginner, you will make mistakes, and those are the best way to grow!

Keep these tips in mind as you start out playing guitar, and you’ll be sure to have fun. Good luck!
